A 16 Year Old Girl Doesn’t Go To School…?
Filed in Category Guy Code
She hangs out with a friend getting high all day, hanging out with guys. She says that her grandmother won’t let her go to school. Can I report her to the police (the grandmother). I am tired of hearing this little girl play her loud music all day and party. She should be in school. She is just a kid.
Is this what truancy is? Does this get reported to the local police department or DYFS? Does my town have a code regarding this as breaking a law or is this a state/federal offense?

By all means report it but just think about what you’ve been told for a moment because it doesn’t ring true to me.
16 year old girls tend to have something of a mind of their own I’ve found having a daughter who is older than that….making them do things can be hard enough and stopping them doing things is just as hard. The idea that the grandmother somehow “won’t let her go” to school doesn’t hold much credibility with me.
And even assuming that was the case….does it also mean the grandmother makes her get high and listen to loud music all day?
I suspect the girl doesn’t go to school all on her own and chooses to hang out getting high and making herself permanently deaf and the grandmother has no say in the matter.
So like I said, report it…but I think in reality it’s the girl you will be reporting.

call DYFS. not only is it truancy but the grandmother is neglecting her duty to this girl. unless the grandmother went to her school and signed papers to officially take her out, but even if she did , it does not excuse the grandmother . she is not watching her like she should.esp. if the child is smoking pot and partying . call now.

It’s only truancy if the girl is UNDER 16 …. Once a person reaches 16 they no longer LEGALLY have to attend school. She is breaking no law by not attending school.
As far as getting high and playing loud music all day … you might get her for possession or disturbing the peace.

You can report it to the local police department, they will handle it by contacting dss, the school and the courts.

I think you have a moral obligation to the girl to report her. I’m not sure how the issue will be reported, but that poor girl’s life is in danger.

No this doesn’t consider as truancy if the girl isn’t enrolled in a school. But this should be reported to a local police or a school police.

This is a matter for Youth services, (DHR /CPS ? what ever in your town they are called)
They will hndle the paperwork off a police complaint or report given as to why this child is not in school.

Not in my state. Truancy is only for those younger than 16.
