If A Man Mandates Laws That Are Adhered To 2000 Years After His Death. Does It Matter If He Actually Existed?

wow – most people who answered already seem to have turned this into a religious/christian question, although that is not what i originally assumed.
it matters if a person existed for the sheer fact that s/he somehow impacted the world, or people in the world. if that person made laws that are still followed, he would not have been able to do it if he did not exist. so yes, it matters that he existed, especially because he still impacts our lives today.
if, indeed, this is christ that you are talking about and the ten commandments or whatever else that god laid down as law… he wasn’t the first. so did his laws really matter? not necessarily because hammurabi had similar laws way before he did in 1795 B.C. there were 282 of them to be exact… but all along the lines of what was summed up into the 10 commandments and the “laws that jesus” made.
and maybe hammurabi’s laws/punishments are not strictly followed today, BUT king menes in egypt had similar rights and expectations of his citizens. the greeks began making laws against murder in 620 B.C.
so quite honestly, i would say that all humans have a basic ethic encoded in them… or an a desire for basic rights such as life and property. if civilization and government were to take place, these things would automatically become protected by the government… whether one person created the laws… or another.

We should not kill.
Steal.
Two thousand years ago this was a good idea.
How about now?
A great law is a great law.
