Filed in Category Monthly Man Laws
explain the implications and if he agrees or not. please and thankyou =)
1. on religious authority
Parris: theres is either obedience or the church will burn like hell is burning.
2. on legal responsibility
Herrick (who has come to arrest Elizabeth): i have nine men outside. you cannot keep her. the law binds me, john. i cannot budge.
3. on right and wrong
Danforth: but you must understand, sir, that a person is either with tihs court or he must be counted against it, there be no road between.
4. on the courage of one’s convictions
Proctor, laughs insanely, then: a fire, a fire is burning! i hear the boot of Lucifer, I see his filthy face! And it is my face, and ours, Danforth! For them that quail to bring men out of ignorance, as i have quailed and as you quail now when you know in all your black hearts that this be fraud–God damns our kind especially, and we will burn, we will burn together.
5. on the value of life
Hale: life, woman, life is God’s most precious gift; no principle, however glorious, may justify the taking of it. I beg you, woman, prevail upon your husband to confess. Let him give his lie. Quail not before God’s judgement in this, for it may be God damns a liar than he that throws his life away for pride…
Elizabeth, quietly: i think that be the Devil’s argument.
6.On marriage
Elizabeth: i have sins of my own to count. It needs a cold wife to prompt lechery.
