For high school:
Take classes that are relevant to what you want to study in college, challenge yourself and study hard!
Concerning clubs, the hackneyed expression is: it's quality, not quantity, but people assume that means be president, or have leadership positions. What really impresses admissions officers is people who made significant, positive changes to the club they're in or their community.
Rules and requirements are in place to help guide you, not constrain you. In other words, know the rules so you can bend them. If I had followed the rules set by my high school, I never would have been able to take several important classes necessary to become an engineering student at Cal. If you know what you want and can reasonably explain your motivations to administrators, they will often allow you to bend the rules so you can follow your dreams.
Finally, don't **** up. It's so easy to get caught up in the wrong crowd that fosters immature or even illegal behavior. Chose your friends wisely, they're a reflection of yourself.
For college: study, study, study, and when you think you're finished, study more.
Only get an internship if you think it will help you in your future career prospects. Don't waste your time and effort pursuing internships completely unrelated to your goals.

show up to class and always do your homework. If you don't understand something let the teacher know so she can cover with you afterwards or during the lesson.
