What Is A Good Kind Of Dog To Get To Get Along With A Alpha Male Pit Bull?
Filed in Category Alpha Male
My male pit is 10 months old. He is alpha male I am pretty sure. He’s a stubborn guy. He and his brother used to get into spats when they were little and it would end in us having to break them up. My friend had his brother, but she got rid of him. I would like to get another dog for him to have a friend. What kind of dog do you think would be a good breed so that they got along? I assume it would be a female, but I don’t know what breed. I’d like it to be big enough for them to play together so I don’t want like a chiuaua or however you spell that. He is neutered..any ideas?

first thing you need to do before you get another dog is to teach your dog that YOU are the alpha male/female NOT him. i would go to a shelter and see how the dog you have now reacts to other dogs. if the reaction is negative at all then take your dog to some training classes so that he can get used to another animal. when your dog and his brother got into these “spats” were they both neutered?

A submissive female pit bull . Since males have a tendency to be male on male aggressive it would be best for a female submissive dog .

I think you should get a female American Pit Bull Terrier. My female American Pit Bull Terrier loves other dogs, but her best friend in the world is a male American Pit Bull Terrier. They get along so well. The male is my friends dog, and he doesn’t like most other dogs, but he gets along great with my spayed female. You will want to introduce the dogs slowly, and make sure they get along before you decide to keep her. You don’t want to leave the dog’s together unsupervised, Ever! Especially since your dog has a history of getting into ’spats’ with other dogs. But if introduced properly, and kept under supervision, you shouldn’t have a problem. And your dog’s should become best friends.
You can consider adopting a Pit Bull. MANY pit bulls end up in animal shelters, and they don’t get adopted because people are afraid to adopt a dog with the term “pit bull” attached. I adopted my girl from an animal shelter, and she is the best dog I could ever ask for. You can search for a female pit bull in your area on http://www.petfinder.com You will find pit bulls who are available for adoption in animal shelters and rescue groups in your area. Good Luck finding your new family companion!!!
**When looking for a new dog, the shelter volunteers will be able to help you. They temperament test all the dogs that come in, and they will be able to find you a female pit bull who is submissive, and friendly with other dogs. Make sure you introduce them before you adopt her, but I’m sure the rescue group will require this anyways.

I don’t think it matters if it’s a female or a male dog. Some female dogs can be way more aggressive than males. are you sure they were fighting and weren’t playing? i ahve a pit bull and he’s really playful but also a real friendly dogs. My boyfriend friend has my dog sister and they would be playing but look like they were fighting. Pit bulls aren’t mean dogs like the rep they have. It’s all depends on the owner. Pit bulls are actually friendly dogs.

No dog. If you have an aggressive Pit Bull that runs the roost and prone to aggression he may kill a new puppy.
Pits begin to show their nature, good or bad, as they reach the 1 year mark. You may be better off getting him a muzzle.
Good luck. Aggressive dogs can really have a negative impact on your life. Don’t be afraid to put him down if he becomes deadly. After all he’s a Pit and the way some “breeders” choose sires is to have dogs fight and the survivor is allowed to breed. Not kidding there. Most people don’t realize they have a dog bred for fighting.

get a large dog, nothing small, and a puppy… ususally dogs take to puppies better than older dogs…

A little scary here with you outlining he is the alpha. Does that mean he is already dog aggressive? If so, consider having 1 dog.
If he is fine with other dogs, definitely go female. I would stick to the same or a smilier type breed. Staffordshire Terrier, Boxer, Bull Terrier, etc. — If you get a male in any of these types of breeds, look out for some fights.

Get a female pitbull at a shelter. I GUARENTEE there are tons of pitbulls at the shelter, the males might fight though, because it is a female… Make sure shes spayed too.

Is your pit, dog aggressive? Does he get along well with other animals? If he is not dog aggressive and gets along will with other animals then I would suggest something that is around the same size as him but a female and also not another dominant breed unless you know that it will be submissive to him. One thing I would suggest is going to the local shelter and take him with you and check out the dogs available there. See if there is one that you and he both like and he seems to get along well with. Good luck.

Well first off your pitt bull should NOT be alpha to anything. If you are the alpha, as you’re supposed to be, then your dog should be able to get along with any breed you choose. Before you go looking for a second dog make sure that YOU are the one in charge, or you will have issues. Especially with a pittie. If you are the pack leader to your dogs then they will get along, because there will be no reason for them to fight each other for domination if they already have someone to follow.

Getting another dog would be the furthest thing from my mind if I owned a young aggressive Pit. You need to run your dog twice a day and teach him some manners. Otherwise bringing another dog in will just lead to rivalry and jealousy and the Pit will snap and chew your leg off. Or go off on the neighbor’s kid. You really have to understand Rotts and Pits and Dobies in order to own one. Dobermans are probably the easiest to train.

I would get another pitbull but just a female one this time. Make sure you spay her. Or get another dog that is about the same size as him. Make sure he isn’t aggressive towards other dogs because if he is, another dog isn’t a good idea.

Five kittens and two teacup anything. Will last for over a week.
ANYWAY : since you obviously don’t have a clue, concentrate on your dog just to make sure he’s well balanced and SUBMISSIVE animal.
Thank you.

OK, first thing is you have to teach the dog that you are the Alpha male. If not you will have a very hard time training him for anything. The next thing is to remember is that Pits are dog aggressive, may love people but not other dogs. Yours is young so still a puppy which will make it easier.
If you love Pits, as I do, get another Pit.
I have a 4 yr old APBT and a 3 1/2 month old APBT. We went through the aggression thing with the older Pit when my grandson brought the puppy home. The older dog would growl and snap at the puppy. My grandson happened to watch an episode of Dog Whisper where they were training a dog to not go after a rabbit. He used the same thing he saw on our dog to get it used to the puppy, it worked. They are best buddies now.

My guess would be a female pitt bull. That a vet could answer better just call your vet and see what they think.

You should be the alpha male not your dog. I think it would be best to get a female and the same breed would be ideal. As long as your dog is well socialized it should get along with any type of dog you decide to get.
